Allow upgrades to large tables to increase the storage limit of PST



Microsoft provides features in Outlook to increase the storage limit of folders of any PST file. You can do this by enabling “Allow upgrade to large tables” feature in Outlook. Upgrading to large tables in Outlook lets you extend the limit on number of messages allowed for each folder. This feature enables the Outlook to increase up to 16000 folders per PST file where each folder can contain 64000 messages.


Allow upgrade to large tables in Outlook update headers of the PST file permanently. Earlier versions of MS Outlook or Exchange may access the .pst file in which allow upgrade to large tables feature has been used. However, this is not supported and may cause corruption in the outlook .pst file. Once the file is corrupted, you will not be able to access any of the outlook stuffs. In this case, you will need to repair the corrupted outlook pst file using PST Repair tool.



How to “Allow upgrade to large tables” feature make available:

First, you will have to be sure that which outlook installation you are using. The procedures for using the feature are different for Corporate Workgroup and Internet Mail Only. Follow the following steps for the specific Outlook installation type.

Outlook for Corporate Workgroup (CW):

  1. Go to Tools menu, click on Services
  2. Select the Personal Folders service -> Properties
  3. On the General tab, click to select the check box of “Allow upgrade to large tables”
  4. Click OK

Outlook for Internet Mail Only (IMO):

  1. Right click on Personal Folders in the Folders list and select “Properties for Personal Folders”
  2. On the General tab, click on Advanced
  3. Select the “Allow upgrade to large tables” check box
  4. Click OK -> OK
