Steps to enable personal folders backup add-in to work with outlook 2010 on Windows 7
Microsoft Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst) are the most important files. This is the repository file of all your data. It stores and manage your emails, notes, calendars, appointments, contacts, journals etc. If you are using Outlook 2010, you must enable Personal Folders backup add-in to work with Outlook 2010. The Outlook pst backup add-on creates backup automatically when you shutdown your Outlook program.
In MS Outlook 2010, pst backup add-in is not enabled by default. It is so because of the new Fast Shutdown feature. It is set disabled by default on Outlook 2010 so that it can shutdown quickly with its new shutdown functionality. If you want to secure your data in Outlook 2010 then you will have to enable Personal Folders backup add-in. When it is enabled, the PST add-on automatically creates backup of your pst file when you shutdown Outlook 2010. But remember that enabling pst backup add-in on Outlook 2010 can slowdown its shutdown process.
How to enable personal folders backup add-in to work with outlook 2010 on Windows 7:
In order to do this, you will need to use Windows registry. This is the most important and sensitive file of Windows that must be handled with care. If you commit mistake while editing registry then it may lead to vulnerable situation in your PC. Therefore if you have no idea of registry editing then it is recommended to go for Outlook PST Backup software. If you are using Windows 7 then follow the following steps to enable backup add-in:
- Click 'Start' - > 'Search'
- type 'regedit' search for the file
- Click 'regedit.exe' in the searched file to start the program
- Locate the registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\Microsoft.OutlookBackup.1
- Select the subkey in the editor and then click on 'Edit'
- Select 'New' - > 'DWORD' Value
- Rename the value to 'RequireShutdownNotification'
- Right click on 'RequireShutdownNotification' - > 'Modify'
- Select 'Edit DWORD' option and type '1' in its Value data box
- Click OK and Quit the Registry Editor
Now pst backup add-on in Outlook 2010 has been enabled. It can automatically creates backup of your pst file.
